Neil Young - Comforting Warmth in the Crisp-Air Days
Updated: Nov 14, 2020
Niel Young is great. I mean, just freakin' great!!
I haven't listened to him in awhile, but it's the early days of the snow's push n' pull with the ground before snow wins over this year. The air is crisp, and it feels extra clean...even with its little bite. I don't know, but for some reason, this puts Ol' Rusty in my mind. Wrapped up cozy in a blanket, and kept warm by that voice, those words, and the melodies of daydreams while watching tiny flurries dance around in the air through the window. My doggie is curled up on my bed, and there's just that deep rooted feeling of comfort filling up the room, and in turn, myself.
Rusty filling the air is a good thing!
I don't know what it is about Neil, but listening to him brings me to a place where I get infused with a sense that everything's gonna be OK. Just as I'll actually shake my head in disbelief in his awesomeness, I will also randomly let out sighs too in a general sense of disbelief 'cause I can't even believe it. He's so fuckin' good!
This time of year feels the most Canadian to me. It's when the time we know that the annual blanket of snow and cold is upon us for months to come, and you gotta toughen up, and bring out your hardy side to make it through unscathed. I love it! Neil Young is the musical definition of that for me. He completely encompasses that whole notion, and it is inevitable that this moment comes at this time every year.
My appreciation for what Neil's music has come to represent for me, and the way that, no matter where I am, or what I'm doing, I get infused with the warmth of home, even in the cold darker days.
It's the simple things...y'know?!
**It's similar with Joni Mitchell too. "A Case of You" = C'mooon!!
